Prayers Requested For Canada’s Aboriginal Peoples

FontaineOn 11 January, Chief Theresa Spence and other First Nations leaders are to meet with Prime Minister Stephen Harper in response to recent Canadian government cuts to social support and treaty rights for the country’s aboriginal peoples. Spence has been on a hunger strike since 11 December in support of her demands for action to resolve the situation.

In issuing her appeal for prayers, Fontaine who is a member of a Canadian First Nation, writes: “This concerns us all, environmentally, socially, economically and especially, spiritually in the end.”
