Community thoughts:
The Alberta Winter Games in Canmore and Banff conclude Sunday Feb 9. It has been a great few days with many lessons learned and hopes renewed.

As the Olympics continue this week we give special thought to the athletes, especially those from the area and the safety of all in Sochi including those athletes who are risking their bodies for their sport.

A Prayer Vigil for the Sochi Olympics is being held in the sanctuary of Ralph Connor Memorial United Church on Monday, February 10 starting at 7:00 PM. There will be the opportunity to simply sit in silence, to light a candle, or to share in more formal prayers. Specific prayers will be offered for the welfare of Gay and Lesbian (LGBTQ) athletes at the Sochi games, and for the safety of all participants and attendees. Silent meditative time will be from 7:00 PM-7:30 PM, followed by guided prayer from 7:30 PM – 8:00 PM. Candle-lighting will be available throughout the Vigil. All residents of the Bow Valley are invited to share in this time of care and support.

Quotes about athletics:

God made me fast. And when I run, I feel His pleasure.
~ Eric Liddell ~

Gold medals aren’t really made of gold. They’re made of sweat, determination, and a hard-to-find alloy called guts.
~ Dan Gable ~

You are never really playing an opponent. You are playing yourself, your own highest standards, and when you reach your limits that is real joy.
